How to keep your handbag clean?

Ah, the maintenance of a handbag. It’s the story of our lives, isn’t it girls? Bags are like good friends, they follow us everywhere and know our every secret.
Small or big, they are real safes but never contain enough space to accommodate all our objects. In fact, we pile them up and damage the bag. Worse still, we even tend to mistreat our bags without realizing it: we put them on the seats of public transport, we hang them on the door handles of the toilets… And that’s where the problem lies: they contain many bacteria. In short, it is very difficult to keep them 100% clean. Especially since more than one woman out of three never takes the time to clean her handbag. And all this, it’s not pretty!
But! It’s never too late to adopt good habits. So, is there a miracle cure to keep your handbag looking great day after day? How can we avoid crumbs, dust, and useless papers that accumulate over time at the bottom of the bag (and that end up dirtying our stuff)? Let’s just say that there is no miracle recipe, but simply small efforts to make that, in the long run, will allow you to keep your handbags in good condition for longer. That way, you don’t have to buy new ones too often!
Here are some tips to keep your handbag clean inside and out. And it’s much more glamorous that way 😉
Rule #1: Invest in a handbag with plenty of storage.
The number one factor in soiling is cramming our belongings into our handbags. Handkerchiefs, keys, makeup, papers, money… you get the idea 😊 Choosing a purse with lots of compartments allows us to organize things by theme: messy products with messy products, etc. This way, items that could accidentally stain or damage others will be well isolated (makeup for example). I even advise you to store them directly in a special plastic or fabric pouch, as this will protect your bag. You can also place the items you need in the most inaccessible pockets so that you can find them easily (your keys for example).
Rule #2: Never without my handbag hanger
The bag hook is a handy little hook that you can take anywhere. It allows you to hang your bag on the edge of a table for example. It is ideal when you go to a restaurant, the bathroom, the office, or any other place. So, instead of putting your bag on a dirty floor, it remains suspended and clean wherever you are. This way you avoid dirt and bacteria.
Rule #3: Beware of humidity
A handbag does not like humidity. If it rains, be sure to protect it with an umbrella or, better yet, a transparent rain cover for your bag. You can also opt for a shoulder bag that you can keep close to you, rather than a hand-held bag that would be more easily exposed to drops of water.

Rule #4: Remove crumbs and dust regularly
There’s no secret: the nooks and crannies of handbags are definitely places where crumbs and dust love to lodge. There is no other solution than to vacuum them up. You can also turn your bag upside down from time to time, then shake it to get rid of any dirt that may have settled at the bottom. Take the opportunity to throw away all the papers you no longer need (receipts…) and used tissues.
Rule #5: Avoid liquids and toxic products
Generally speaking, handbags and liquids do not mix well. Inside your bag, it is better to avoid carrying a bottle of water, soda, or toxic liquid such as nail polish. Indeed, it is not uncommon for the bottle to open and spill into the bag. On the outside, for cleaning, it is also best to avoid cleaning with a lot of water, especially if your handbag is made of leather. Rule #6: Keep your handbag as light as a feather
It’s not easy to carry only the bare necessities! However, by making your bag as light as possible, you prolong its life. When our handbag is overloaded, we tend to rummage around for a long time before we can find what we’re looking for, which eventually damages the seams, dirties the interior fabric, and allows crumbs to better infiltrate the bottom of the bag.

You see, there is nothing impossible to do! It’s just a few small habits to get into. You will be fully satisfied to walk around with a clean, tidy and pleasant handbag. Plus, by cleaning it regularly, you’ll extend its life!
